THE FILM

We want to bring awareness to the misconceptions of mental illness.

Eight is a short dramatic film following a young woman named, Sarah who struggles through a series of flashbacks as she contemplates suicide. We want the audience to feel her pain and be present in her mind as she sits alone in her room, experiencing her torment over and over again.

Sara is beautiful and intelligent, but behind her laughter there is a dark past. Even surrounded by friends and family, she feels alone. Sarah suffers from mental illness and her choices of self harm offers her control. Something she has never had any of.

As she slowly and painfully crosses out one name after another, she loses even more hope of surviving.

THE MISSION

There are so many misconceptions about Mental Illness.

Most people are scared to talk about mental illness, it's something that is never discussed openly, or even shared with close ones. There are so many misconceptions about mental illness, and especially self-harm.

I wanted to bring awareness to those illnesses and disorders that a lot of people are hiding from not only everyone else, but themselves. No one wants to believe they have mental illness, and that's one reason why they refuse to get diagnosed or seek help.

Many people are too embarrassed to speak out about what they are dealing with for fear of being ridiculed. If more people understood these disorders, then more people could receive help. Depression and mental illness is not something you choose to have, and it's not simply having a bad day. Depression and mental illness are real, and taking the lives of so many people.

THE CAST

Almost every character is struggling with inner demons.

Almost every character in the film suffers from mental illness. It's important to demonstrate the different types of illness and/or disorders and show how each person's actions cause a reaction.

The story follows Sara from when she is a young girl, through her teenage years, and into adulthood. The flashbacks create a timeline of trauma, and keeps you in awe.

We didn't want to hold back with the visuals. There are some scenes where you're going to feel uncomfortable, but it's important to be honest about the reality of the situations. It's often a topic that's easily joked about. But there is nothing funny about these situations, and we hope that this story will help others understand the gravity of it all.
